Terms and Conditions
Welcome to Cardboard Toy World. By accessing our website, purchasing our blueprints, or using our instructional videos, you agree to be bound by the following Terms and Conditions. Please read them carefully, as they contain important information regarding your legal rights and our intellectual property.
1. Intellectual Property and Design Rights
Cardboard Toy World is built on proprietary engineering, mechanical linkages, and geometric design. All content, including but not limited to blueprints, instructional videos, website copy, and the specific mechanical assemblies depicted therein, are the exclusive intellectual property of Cardboard Toy World.
Patent and Design Notice: The unique three-dimensional geometric structures, mechanical linkages, and functional assemblies taught in our materials embody proprietary design work. Cardboard Toy World actively protects its innovations and may have design patents or utility patents pending on specific mechanical builds. Your purchase grants you access to this knowledge but does not transfer any ownership or underlying intellectual property rights to you.
2. Permitted Use (The "Maker" License & Toymaker Registration)
When you purchase a blueprint from Cardboard Toy World, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the materials for personal or permitted educational purposes.
You may use the blueprints to construct the physical toys for yourself or your family, and you may modify the visual aesthetics (coloring, painting, or decorating) of the physical toys you build.
Youth Entrepreneurship: We want to encourage young people to build, learn, and experience the rewards of their own craftsmanship! Toymakers are explicitly permitted and encouraged to make our physical toys and sell them. To do so, they must sign up to be an official Toymaker by clicking here: Official Toymaker Sign-Up.
3. Educational Use
We believe active learning—where learners use their hands to manipulate physical things—consistently produces superior outcomes. Therefore:
- Accredited Teachers: May use our blueprints for hands-on classroom instruction at accredited schools, whether those classes are held in person or online.
- Enrichment & Homeschool Educators: Professionals working as enrichment educators, as well as all homeschool instructors, may use our blueprints as part of their instructional curriculum, for both in-person and online classes.
We strongly encourage all educators to become a Master Artificer to get exclusive access to our upcoming Mastercraft Codex, which includes extension projects and other resources. Get Access to the Mastercraft Codex.
4. Strict Prohibition on Commercial Exploitation
To protect the integrity of our business and our intellectual property, the following actions are strictly prohibited unless you possess a signed, written Commercial Licensing Agreement from Cardboard Toy World:
- No Digital Distribution, Copying, or Unofficial Instruction: Blueprints cannot be copied or duplicated; an individual blueprint must be purchased directly from Cardboard Toy World for each learner.. Furthermore, you are strictly prohibited from recording or posting your own instructional videos teaching others how to build our toys. Educators must use our official Cardboard Toy World instructional videos for all classroom instruction.
- No Commercial Manufacturing: With the explicit exception of registered Toymakers hand-building and selling their individual creations, you may not mass-produce, manufacture, or commercially sell the physical toys built from our blueprints.
- No Reverse Engineering: You may not trace, reverse-engineer, or slightly modify our blueprints or mechanical geometries to create competing templates, kits, or digital downloads.
- No Unauthorized Workshops: Unless you fall under the permitted educational uses detailed in Section 3, you may not charge a fee to host workshops, camps, or classes using our materials without an explicit commercial license.
5. Assumption of Risk and Liability
Cardboard toymaking requires the use of sharp tools, including scissors, craft knives, and bamboo skewers, as well as adhesives. By using our blueprints and videos, you acknowledge that making these toys involves inherent risks. Cardboard Toy World provides safety guidelines and "Pro Tips," but we are not responsible or liable for any personal injury, property damage, or harm that occurs during the construction or use of our toys. Adult supervision is required for minors.
6. Modifications to Terms
Cardboard Toy World reserves the right to modify these terms at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting to this website. Your continued use of the site or our materials constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
