International Baccalaureate Standards Mapping

Makeneer projects can be used within IB programmes to support selected PYP and MYP framework elements through hands-on mechanical construction.

Alignment reviewed October 2026.

Direct Build Alignment

Standards and evidence.

These alignments use only the ordinary Makeneer construction process. They do not depend on a separate extension activity.

I. IB Primary Years Programme

PYP
How the world works
A transdisciplinary theme through which learners inquire into the natural world and its laws, relationships between the natural world and human societies, and how people use scientific understanding.
A working Makeneer mechanism gives learners a concrete object through which to examine cause and effect, force, motion, material behaviour and the human use of scientific principles in designed technology.

II. IB Middle Years Programme

MYP
Scientific and technical innovation
A global context that helps learners explore scientific and technical innovation and the ways human ingenuity interacts with the world.
Makeneer exposes the engineering inside a mechanical product. Learners can see how purposeful component shapes, joints, reinforcement and motion paths turn material into a functioning technological system.
MYP
Approaches to Learning · Thinking Skills
ATL develops critical and creative thinking and encourages learners to apply knowledge and skills in unfamiliar contexts.
Assembly requires learners to interpret a plan, visualize spatial relationships, diagnose fit or alignment problems, infer cause and effect and apply emerging mechanical understanding to a physical object they are constructing.

Makeneer

Hands-on evidence for standards-aligned learning.

Makeneer projects can be used to support these programme elements. Students also gain skill in their use of tools and appreciate the importance of accuracy in engineering.
